Making a Gift
We look forward to talking with you about making a gift in support of the Im Tirtzu project. Our capital campaign team is working as fast as they can to contact temple members to discuss the project. If you have not yet been contacted and would like to speak with someone about making a gift to the campaign, or if you’d just like to know more about the project, please call 510 451-3263 and ask for our Executive Director, Paul Geduldig. He will make sure the campaign team knows to get in touch with you as soon as possible.
Giving over time makes it easier to make a significant gift. We know many people want to give generously, but are concerned about the impact on their cash flow. By making your gift over time, it is much easier to manage a larger gift. See the Guide to Generous Giving to see how donations made over five years can add up to a substantial gift to the Temple.
Pledges: Once you’ve decided on the gift you’d like to make, we will ask you to sign a pledge form. This form is important, because our pledges serve as collateral for the construction loan. Most congregants are making pledges of 1–5 years (though 7 year pledges are available as well).
Types of Gifts:
- A check from a personal account or family foundation
- An automated monthly electronic funds transfer
- Giving appreciated securities can be a tax advantaged way to make a capital gift. When you donate appreciated securities, you take the full value of the donated security as a tax deduction, and you don’t pay capital gains on the appreciated value.
- If you are over 70½, you may make a tax–free gift out of an IRA distribution. Through 2008 these charitable gifts made out of IRA distributions are not taxed as income.
- Donating a Car— we work with an auction house that picks up the car and processes all your paperwork for you. You receive a tax write off for the full sale price of the car. The amount of money the Temple receives (after the auction house’s commission) may be applied towards your capital campaign pledge.
If you would like to learn more about making a gift to Temple Sinai’s Im Tirtzu capital campaign, please contact Paul Geduldig at 451-3263 and he can provide you with information and the necessary paperwork. Please consult your tax advisor to learn more about how different types of gifts would best suit your financial situation. Thank you again for considering a gift to Im Tirtzu!
